About ThermoTextile

ThermoTextile is a research company based in Canada focusing on innovative technologies within textile engineering field, mainly developing thermo-regulating textiles from novel phase change materials (PCMs).

ThermoTextile will be the first smart textile that utilizes phase changing material (PCM) technology paired with the Company’s unique nano-encapsulation technique. The benefits the Company’s product offers include it being eco-friendly, bio-based, thermos-regulating, cooling effect, and odor control. Furthermore, the innovative technologies the Company uses within their manufacturing processes is more cost-effective than competitors.

At ThermoTextile, the Company aims to develop an innovative technology to simultaneously achieve fast-response thermoregulation textile equipped with excellent odor-free and breathability properties.

Vision

To be a leading smart textile producer and manufacturer for smart textile manufacturers, large textile suppliers, and bedding and soft furnishing producers to use in their own production lines.

In the long term, ThermoTextile wants to own and manage the supply chain activities (manufacture, distribution, and retail) for ThermoTextile products from after year 3.

The technology uses renewable, bio-based materials making the entire production process eco-friendly.

ThermoTextile seeks to offer an alternative solution in providing thermo-regulating, odor-free, and breathable textiles utilizing innovative nano-encapsulated PCM technology. A unique bio-extract loaded nanoparticle is also used to prevent odor formation.

What are phase change materials(PCMS)?

Technology Used

Nano-Encapsulation

One of the most important processes for the Company’s product is nano-encapsulation. In this process individual particles of an active agent can be stored within a shell, surrounded, or coated with a continuous film of polymeric material. This produces particles in the micrometer to nano-millimeter range

The major mechanism is based on a process called ionic gelation. The PCM is in fact a specific physical blend of copper-based nano-compound and the employed fatty acid. All the ratios and processing conditions were optimized to achieve the highest PCM loading. This is the process that is the basis of ThermoTextile product/service

THERMOTEXTILE-COATED COTTON FABRIC

One of the most important processes for the Company’s product is nano-encapsulation. Lab Results
  • Almost 60% less heating
  • Temperature remains in the ‘comfort zone
The Company has received excellent lab results regarding ThermoTextile’s thermo-regulation performance. An infrared thermographic camera was used to prove the thermal managing ability of ThermoTextile in lab-scale. As a result of absorbing a notable amount of heat during the melting process of PCM, the textile temperature remained cooler compared to the control fabric.
